Connect, Don't Bore: How to Brew The Perfect LinkedIn About Section

A man and woman sitting at a table, talking in a coffee shop. Your LinkedIn About section should be like a casual coffee shop conversation.

A Café Chat, Not a Resumé Recital

I love living in Fort Collins, Colorado. It's so easy to get together with people for a "getting to know you" café chat.

That's kind of how your LinkedIn About Section should feel. Like sitting down for coffee with a prospect.

Think about it. You meet up with a new acquaintance at a café. They ask what you do. Would you rattle off your job history or dryly recite your accomplishments? Probably not (at least I hope not).

You're better off having a conversation — one that’s engaging, relatable, and focused on how you can help them.

That’s exactly how your About section should feel.

Make your LinkedIn Profile Sing with step-by-step instruction, plus loads of guides, examples and templates.

Here’s how you can make your LinkedIn About section feel like a meaningful café chat:

Start With Your Prospect's Needs ☕

Open with a line that speaks directly to their challenges or goals.

Example: “Are you struggling to connect with B2B buyers on LinkedIn? I help sales teams build trust through genuine conversations.”

Share Your Unique Value ☕

Just like in a face-to-face conversation, talk about who you help and how you help them.

Example: “I specialize in human-to-human prospecting, helping teams build relationships that lead to measurable results.”

Sprinkle In Proof ☕

In a real-life conversation, you’d share an example or success story. Do the same here.

Example: “Last year, I helped an ERP client boost sales pipeline by 40% through a LinkedIn prospecting strategy.”

Infuse Your Personality ☕

Don’t be afraid to let your voice shine through. People want to connect with a person, not a stale resumé.

Example: “I believe that good sales starts with good listening — and that LinkedIn should be about connecting, not spamming.”

End With An Invitation ☕

Like offering your business card at the end of a meeting, invite them to take the next step.

Example: “Want to learn more about how I can help? Let’s connect!”

Triple Shot Tip ☕☕☕

Talk to your current customers and ask what it's like to work with you. Get a sense of what flipped the switch that led them to decide to work with you. That'll help clarify your value proposition.

Your About section is your chance to create a real, human connection — just as you would over a cup of coffee (or tea or chagaccino, etc). Make it approachable, engaging, and all about how you can help.
